The day has been epic thus far the competitors have been showcasing their best. At noon today we begin the master classes featuring Sylvia V.C. Twine and Darryl Taylor. The classes provide an opportunity for our contestants to learn and engage with some of the greatest professionals in their field.

Sylvia has performed internationally throughout Germany, Austria and Italy and in national venues such as the White House, the Smithsonian Institution, DAR Constitution Hall, and the JF Kennedy Center in Washington, DC.Ms. Twine received her Master of Music degree from the University of Michigan where she studied with the noted tenor George Shirley. Her awards and honors include 1993 Presser Foundation Award and Scholarship (Armstrong State College), the 1996 Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Spirit Award (University of Michigan), and winner of the 1997 North Central District Leontyne Price Vocal Arts Competition.

Darryl Taylor is a trailblazing countertenor renowned for his captivating performances and exceptional vocal talent. His performances effortlessly traverse genres, from Baroque to contemporary, showcasing his versatility and depth as an artist.

Mr. Taylor has appeared with recital and with orchestras in the USA, Europe, Cuba, and China. These include Orfeo Catala, Musica Angelica Orchestra, Santa Monica Chamber Orchestra, Brooklyn Chamber Orchestra, Wisconsin Chamber Orchestra, Los Angeles Philharmonic, San Bernadino Symphony, Bakersfield Symphony, Lyra Baroque Orchestra, Bach Collegium San Diego, the Johann Strauss Sinfonietta of Vienna, the W.A. Mozart Philharmonic of Cluj, Romania, Camerata Mediterania of Barcelona, and the Aspen Music Festival (Young Artists Series)

Yeah! Today is the today. We are all here ready to begin the competition. Good look to everyone competing. Today we begin with Auditions for the the Highschool (Kevreson Rehearsal Hall), College (Hankinson Hall and Watkins Hall), and Pre-Professional Divisions (Britton Hall and McIntosh Hall). Everything Begins at 9am.

The 2024 GSVC is here! We open this weekend with a thrilling Opening Panel, ‘The Multi-Hyphenate George Shirley,’ in Britton Recital Hall from 5:00-6:30pm. Join the legendary founder and special guests, with Dr. Antonio Cuyler moderating a lively discussion about George Shirley’s multifaceted life outside of his Professional Opera career.

Plus, Join us in surprising George Shirley in celebrating his 90th birthday and his illustrious career with a welcome concert at 7:30pm in briton recital hall. We are delighted to welcome a few surprise guests during this welcome concert.
